2018 Lexus LS to get "some cool interior stuff" - Lexus insider!

Floating seats might be carried over from the concept

In an interview with media journalists, Lexus International Executive Vice President Mark Templin revealed some interesting details about the next-generation Lexus LS which as we reported, is expected to launch in the market in 2017. He mentioned that the flagship sedan will feature "some cool interior stuff."

Showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show 2015, the Lexus LF-LC concept previewed the next generation LS and provided an insight into the future model's interior. In addition to 'floating' front seats, reclining rear seats, it featured a high-tech interior with a digital instrument cluster, hand gesture recognition technology to control the audio and climate control systems and a full length centre console with an array of touchscreen displays.

Mark Templin declined to comment on the specifics but mentioned that the company is focusing on craftsmanship and technology for the 2018 Lexus LS. He mentioned, "We are going to do some things with the next-generation LS interior that we have never done with interiors before."

Thing is, the replacement for the next generation Lexus LS is well overdue and I hope Lexus will make the wait worth it for those who have been loyal to the flagship. Prior to this, the LS flagship has been on a 6-year life cycle, and as we enter 2016, the LS is four years overdue. Technology-wise, the BMW has already pioneered hand gesture technology in the latest BMW 7 Series, so this isn't anything new. Lexus needs to go well beyond what's currently offered by luxury flagships so that, firstly, car lovers won't be disappointed ('hang on, this has been done before') and so that its brand image doesn't suffer by having kept the public waiting for so long.

Come on, Lexus... we're waiting.

Cheers!

All Lexus
