Lexus Hybrid Drive beats rival BMW, Mercedes and Audi to deliver outstanding real-world 59.6mpg
And the hits just keep on coming. Leading motoring publication What Car? has named the Lexus IS 300h the most efficient executive car, beating out rivals from BMW, Mercedes and Audi in a combined cycle test. In brief, every car manufacturer publishes official mpg figures but these are dependent upon absolutely perfect laboratory conditions. Real world mpg is an entirely different proposition. To find out, What Car? despatched a team of drivers to subject competing executive cars across a multitude of road conditions: highway cruising and city crawls to find out what mileage you're most likely to get under realistic scenarios. At the end of this lengthy test, the Lexus IS 300h came out tops.
The results are:
1. Lexus IS 300h (Winner)
Official: 64.2 mpg; True: 59.6 mpg
2. Mercedes Benz C300 Hybrid

What Car? reported the Lexus IS 300h real-world efficiency demonstrated the smallest variance from official figures, ensuring its mpg calculation methods were backed by fair-and-just means. In other words, claimed mpg by manufacturers BMW, Mercedes Benz and Audi were derived under less-than-achievable circumstances, which is why in real-world tests, these cars struggled to get anywhere near official values.
Kudos to Lexus for this coveted win 'The most efficient executive car award' by renowned motoring publication What Car?
Cheers
All Lexus
