In brief, every car manufacturer publishes official mpg figures but these are dependent upon absolutely perfect laboratory conditions. Real world mpg is an entirely different proposition. To find out, What Car? despatched a team of drivers to subject competing executive cars across a multitude of road conditions: highway cruising and city crawls to find out what mileage you're most likely to get under realistic scenarios. At the end of this lengthy test, the Lexus IS 300h came out tops.
