Lexus overtakes Audi as the third top-selling luxury car in Malaysia!

Lexus 2015 sales boosted by NX and new RX models

For the first time in Malaysia, Lexus vehicle sales have topped Audi to be the third best-selling luxury car! Congratulations, Lexus!

This achievement is all the more deserved given tough conditions car manufacturers had to contend with in the Malaysian auto industry.

Firstly, the weakening Ringgit had an adverse impact on the prices of cars. Secondly, the roll out of GST in April 2015 added a further unwelcome burden onto already tight wallets. Together, these factors dampened consumer sentiments to an all-time low of 70.2 points in Q3 2015.

To overcoming these challenges, car dealerships threw more incentives to regain consumer confidence. Never before have dealers been so eager to hand out discounts, innovative financing packages and attractive lease programmes. The top three best selling cars in 2015 were Perodua (213,307 units), Proton (102,172 units) and Honda (94,902 units), while the Germans took the top two spots in the luxury car segment, with Mercedes-Benz moving 11,034 units and BMW shifting 7,515 units. On the strength of the all-new 2016 Lexus RX and the introduction of the NX in early 2015, Lexus won the hearts of 2,101 buyers. Audi trailed behind at 1,592 units.

To put this into perspective, multiply Jaguar's 2015 sales (90 units) by five, combined with Audi's sales, and you still wouldn't achieve what Lexus sold in 2105. Fantastic, Lexus! I'm proud of what you have achieved. There's still a long way to go to catch up with the main two German players but you're getting there.

Cheers!

All Lexus
