The world's only Lexus LFA Spyder - in Jay Leno's Garage

Famed talkshow supremo goes behind the scenes in the making of the Lexus LFA and drives the WORLD'S ONLY topless Lexus LFA

Here's a fun one! Not many are aware of this but Lexus actually developed a fully-working Lexus LFA Spyder (quite why it didn't go on sale, Lexus is keeping tight on this - but more on this later). Who but Jay Leno, the host of The Tonight Show, got a backstage pass to the Motomachi plant in Japan see an actual Lexus LFA in the process of being built (video below).

We all know how complex, intricate and time-consuming the process each Lexus LFA undergoes from start to finish. But Jay Leno reveals yet another startling fact: Even after it's done, it's still not done. Every completed Lexus LFA is subjected to 7,000 inspection points that alone takes 10 days.

After the factory visit, Jay Leno gets behind the wheel of the only Lexus LFA Spyder in the world, and the only Lexus LFA Spyder Lexus will ever build. Unlike a conventional cabriolet, there is no folding hardtop or collapsible softtop, so I guess the most correct way to describe it is a topless Lexus LFA. The roof had been chopped off and the rear body reworked to achieve the barest minimum Cd so it wedges through the air as close as possible to a production Lexus LFA. Keen readers will also spot how, on hard braking, the rear spoiler deploys at an angle of 29 degrees to act as an air brake. The rest of the car (engine, suspension, chassis) are completely identical to its coupe brother.

In the rarefied stratosphere of supercars, beholding a car of which only one was ever made and will ever be made, is something you're not going to forget anytime soon. For the likes of us mere mortals, this video is sadly the closest we'll ever get to the Lexus LFA Spyder.

Enjoy!
